SUMMER FAERY
I wanted to do a sunny, happy, pretty picture -- particularly one that captured that exuberant feeling that one gets from a summer day.
I'm impatient for summer to start where I live. It's still really chilly in the mornings and wet and rainy. There's still little bits of winter hanging around in fields and some lawns.
Bring on the sunshine!
I've been here and there. I've drawn a lot of pictures. I've written a bit, too. I'm not good at this self-promotion thing. Look, you want to know about me? just visit these websites. Okay?

AFTERMATH
This is a picture I first did years ago. I recently tried to re-vamp it but never quite finished it to my satisfaction. Just this morning I pulled it up and added a background and some colour.
Fuck it. It's finished.

WIP WEDNESDAY - Betty Page
I meant to post this last week shortly after I'd posted the final artwork. Better late then never.

Here's the initial sketch, done in Painter 11 in a sepia tone. |
Here I've set the sketch to multiply mode and put in a neutral background |
Working the background |
Here I've added a neutral flesh tone between the background and the sketch |
Added a blue tone to the background |
And I begin shading with a darker value of the flesh colour. |
More shading |
And here is the finished product again. pushed the shadows darker and added softer highlights, did a lot of blending and added a yellow highlight to the right edge of the figure. Viola! Betty! |

THE MAGNIFICENT BETTY PAGE
Well, Betty was magnificent -- I just hope this rendering does her some justice. Nevertheless, now that I have done a painting of Betty I can now call myself a real and true pin-up artist.

BETTY BEHIND
Well, I just completed the BIG PROJECT (I will post it once I get the okay from the publisher) and I was looking for something else to do when it occurred to me that I had never done a picture of Betty Page.
Now, as you likely know, you can't call yourself a real artist unless you've done a picture of Betty Page. So I am determined to rectify that shortcoming in my CV and I have decided I'm going to post the work in progress.
So this is the first step. Using one colour, a brown (It would be a Van Dyke Brown if I were painting with actual instead of virtual paints). I have just got the outlines down (or the "cartoon" in painter parlance) and had some real fun with her hair.
More as I get it done.

WEDNESDAY WIP
I'm still working on the same project as last Wednesday. You may recall this section. I said it would likely change and sure enough, it did!
It's a big picture and I will likely be at it a while. Here are a few completed sections and one figure that is incomplete but might give you an idea about how I work (for anyone who cares about that sort of thing).

FRANCES AND THE DRESS
Monday morning my wife went to work in this dress. I've drawn as close an approximation as I can manage but I fear I have completely failed to capture how really really devastatingly good she looked in it. She could have fit right in on the set of MAD MEN. She looked fantastic.
Since I didn't take a photo (which she would not allow me to upload, anyway) this is as good as I can do.

JUNGLE WARRIOR
A quick sketch -- not even really serious about it -- just pushing pixels around.
